The Cupcake Stall Cupcakes

Today I want to share with you the cupcake recipe that gave this blog the name of "The Cupcake Stall". There is a long story that goes with this recipe, and I'm sure one day you will hear it.

To make these cupcakes, you will need:

- 4oz butter
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons vanilla essence
- 7oz plain flour
- 5oz sugar
- 120mL milk
- Pinch of salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder

1. Preheat the oven to 180⁰C, 356⁰F, or Gas Mark 4.

2. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the butter, eggs, vanilla essence, flour, sugar, milk, salt and baking powder. You are supposed to do this with an electric whisk, but a balloon whisk or a spoon will work just as well.

3. Line a cupcake tray with cupcake cases. Spoon the batter evenly into the cases. Bake for 15 minutes or until you can stick a knife into the cakes and it comes out clean. Transfer the cakes onto a wire cooling rack.

In the way of decorating the cakes, you can mix together icing sugar and food colouring to make icing, and decorate with sprinkles or sweets. I have given you the original recipe here, but for something different, add blueberries or chocolate chips into the batter, or use a different essence (e.g. lemon or orange) instead of vanilla.

Here are some of the cupcakes I made with this recipe

If you make these cupcakes, send me a picture with using #cupcakestallbaking on Instagram or Twitter. I would love to see what you make!

  1. Wow, so many cupcakes! May I ask what you made them all for?

    1. We had a school fete, and each year level was in charge of a different stall. My year was making cupcakes, and I ended up working at the Cupcake Stall :)

  2. These cupcakes are gorgeous, I love the sprinkle cupcakes. How did you decorate the sheep, cookie monster, pig and Angry Bird cupcakes?

    Allie x

    1. I'm glad you like the cupcakes :)

The sheep was made by a white chocolate button face, with marshmallow fur and liquorice eyes and legs

The cookie monster was made with white chocolate maltesers and an oreo in the mouth.

The pig we did with a marshmallow snout and little pieces of liquorice for the eyes and nose.

The Angry Bird one was done by using a marshmallow-y cupcake decal thing. Unfortunately, as most of the cupcake decorations were donated, I don't know where it is from :(

  3. These look absolutely delicious! Did you make them all?

    1. There were a lot of volunteers who made cupcakes, but all the ones in the photos are ones that I made :)
